Standard Bowel Cleansing

Colons: Healthy & Toxic
When the colon becomes impacted with dry putrefactive waste, its shape and function are often affected in numerous ways. It may stretch like a balloon in certain areas, or develop something called "diverticula" (pouches on the intestinal wall which may become infected), or fall down upon itself (prolapsed colon). All of these colon malformations greatly impair your large intestine's ability to function, which in turn places severe strain on your digestive organs and glands and affects nutrient assimilation and absorption. The colon is the body's "sewer system", and if not treated properly can accumulate toxic poisons, which are absorbed into the bloodstream. This in turn can cause many diseases.

A standard, effective bowel cleanse utilizes:

Light foods and/or raw vegetable juices
Probiotics
Psyllium husk and/or flax seeds
Bentonite clay
Colonic irrigation

An important component of a colon cleansing program is the use of probiotics to help replenish the population of friendly bacteria which resides in your colon. Medical science now tells us that over 80% of our immune system resides in the bowel. Bentonite clay, psyllium husks and flaxseeds can be effective in assisting with the colon cleansing process. Bentonite is a type of edible clay that acts as a magnet, drawing toxic waste away from the colon wall. It binds toxins such as pesticides and helps to carry them out of the colon. Flaxseeds and psyllium husks absorb water and expand like a sponge in the colon, mopping up the toxins and mucus to be removed. They gently scrub the mucosa layer of the bowel. In addition, these bulking agents have been found to lower cholesterol levels.

Colonics assist the bowel by rinsing out all the stirred up waste produced by the process described above.

During the colonic appointment at Oasis Colonics in Portland, Oregon, we discuss particular cleansing options.
