Rotating Probiotic Supplements

At Oasis Colonics in Portland, Oregon, I recommend rotating probiotics to enhance overall microbial biodiversity in the G.I. tract. This practice is gaining interest among medical professionals. Rotation usually involves taking a given probiotic brand for a period of time (daily, weekly or monthly) followed by a different brand for a similar time period, and then “rotating back” to the first brand. Sometimes three or more brands are used. For this reason, I rotate my favorite brands that are for sale in my colon therapy practice.

The premise is that pathogenic bacteria and other undesirable microorganisms will be more effectively defeated by a larger contingency of probiotic strains. Certain probiotic strains colonize more effectively in specific areas of the G.I. tract – Lactobacilli do better in the small intestine while Bifidobacteria prefer the colon.

When a label tells you that the food you are buying “contains probiotics,” I encourage you to question whether they are selling health benefits or meremarketing hype. More on that topic in this article from The New York Times ~ Health section.

Laxatives vs Enemas vs Colonics

At Oasis Colonics in Portland, Oregon a colon hydrotherapy session lasts approximately one hour. A series of at least three separate sessions is recommended to achieve the maximum cleansing benefit. Colonics help to eliminate fecal matter from the large intestine, which may have been lodged in the colon for weeks, months, or even years. The goal of colon hydrotherapy is to irrigate the entire colon. This procedure greatly enhances the therapeutic benefit colon cleansing. The results attained with colonics are much greater than those achieved with the use enemas or laxatives. Enema cleansing is limited to the recto-sigmoid area, and cannot take the water further into the colon. Over-the-counter laxatives simply stimulate expulsion of the contents in the rectum. They contribute to dehydration and colon muscle weakness which may exacerbate a constipated condition.

During a colon hydrotherapy session at Oasis Colonics, gallons of water are circulated in and out of the colon. Throughout the session your colon therapist uses a combination of abdominal massage and breathing techniques to help promote the elimination of toxic waste.

One colon hydrotherapy session may be equivalent to having several regular bowel movements. As you continue colon therapy, future sessions can prove to be even more effective as the older, harder mucus coated feces are soften and dislodged from the colon walls. Utilizing colonics while taking cleansing products, or while on detox programs, can greatly help facilitate and maximize results.
